Description: Disguise allows you to change how you appear to others so that they will not recognize you. This is done through a number of methods including the application of makeup and the wearing of costumes.
Who Can Learn It: Only bards and thieves can learn disguise.
What It is Supposed to Do: Allows you to appear as another race, class, sex, or person.
What it Does: Allows you to appear as another race, class, sex, or person (change your name). Changes to the current disguise system, however, are currently being considered.
Activation: DISGUISE (DISGUISE [NAME/RACE/SEX/CLASS] AS [Change]. "Change" examples: Go-Blin-Al, Leuian, Secian, Male, Female, Runemage, Fighter, Torgin Lorefinder). Also: REVEAL (REVEAL [VICTIM] to remove a disguise), INFO DISGUISE (to see what your disguise is currently set to).
Usefulness (Low Levels): Low. At low levels, making a significant change such as disguising one's name can take many, many tries. Expect to take at least 10 minutes to disguise yourself.
Usefulness (Mid-Levels): Moderate. Placing a disguise is easy to do, but there is still a long delay.
Usefulness (High Levels): Low. The delay is only slightly decreased from the mid-level delay, while the success rate remains almost the same.
How to Practice: Just stand in a (preferably peacebound) room and DISGUISE yourself for hours. There's no shortcut to gaining Disguise levels, and it will take you a LONG time to get good.
Tips: Disguise skill uses break down as follows: 4 uses for changing your race, 3 uses for changing your sex, 2 uses for changing your name, and 1 use for changing your class. At low levels, you will have the most success changing your class, so only disguising that area is recommended when practicing.
Unconfirmed Rumors (May or May Not Be True): Putting a "disguise" over a disguise may be more difficult, so "revealing" your old disguise when practicing is a good idea.
